Distinguished International Scientific Participation by a University of Tikrit Researcher at a Global Conference in China

As part of the University of Tikrit's commitment to strengthening its international academic presence and promoting scientific engagement with global research communities, Professor Dr. Saba A. Gheni, a faculty member in the Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering, University of Tikrit, participated in the First International Conference on Oil & Gas, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), and New Energy, held in Chengdu, China, from June 5–7, 2026.

The conference brought together leading researchers, academics, and industry experts from around the world to discuss the latest developments and innovations in the fields of energy, environmental sustainability, carbon management, and emerging technologies.

During the conference, Professor Dr. Saba A. Gheni presented her research paper entitled:

“Healing of Conflict Scars by Bioremediation of Contaminated Soil by Crude Oil Spills”

The study addressed the environmental impacts of petroleum contamination in soil and explored the application of bioremediation technologies as a sustainable solution for restoring polluted environments. The research focused on utilizing microorganisms and biological processes to rehabilitate soil affected by crude oil spills, contributing to the recovery of its ecological functions and promoting environmental sustainability.

The paper also highlighted the significance of environmentally friendly remediation approaches in mitigating the long-term consequences of pollution resulting from conflicts and industrial activities, emphasizing the role of innovative biological methods in environmental restoration.

This international participation reflects the continuous efforts of the University of Tikrit and the College of Engineering to support scientific research, encourage academic excellence, and enhance the global visibility of their researchers through active engagement in international conferences and scientific forums.

Professor Dr. Saba Adnan Ghani Al-Idreesi noted that participating in this conference provided a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge with international experts, explore recent advances in carbon capture and new energy technologies, and establish future scientific collaborations with researchers and academic institutions worldwide.
